During episode 1 when Fry was frozen by the capsule, a scrolling background was shown to represent what had occurred from current time to the year 3000. The timeline showed that humans will advance in technology but will be destroyed by it or other life forms. After all is destroyed, Humans would once again restart the cycle of building themselves up to what they once were. This resembles the idea of Warfare/Nuclear, to which humans get annihilated by a higher power then gets reborn again, falling into the same cycle over and over again.. On a positive note, at least the human race does not die out completely which is always a good thing....
